What is Energetica?
Energetica is a free, web-based multiplayer game that brings the complexities of energy systems to life.
Players take on the role of energy managers, balancing electricity generation, resource extraction, and CO2
emissions while adapting to climate challenges. Through strategic decision-making and collaboration,
Energetica offers a realistic yet engaging way to explore energy solutions and their trade-offs.
A World of Strategic Decisions
Energetica places players in a dynamic simulation where they manage energy systems and navigate complex
challenges. Players choose a location, build facilities like power plants and storage units, and trade
resources in realistic markets shaped by supply and demand.
Every decision has trade-offs, influenced by factors like location, technology, and the actions of others.
Rising CO2 levels and climate risks add shared challenges, pushing players to weigh cooperation against
competition. With no single "best" strategy, success depends on adaptability and careful analysis. For a

The following pictures are some screenshots from the game. In the first picture we can see a sample of the
power facilities that a player can build. The second picture shows a graph of the energy generation of a
network. The different colors represent the different generation technologies. The last picture shows the
evolution of the global average temperature of a server over a long period. We can see a disruption
caused by the players emissions. The rise in temperature increases risks for the occurrence of climate
events that affect players negatively.
The Story Behind Energetica
Launched in 2023, Energetica was born out of a desire to shift the energy conversation. Too often, public
debate oversimplifies the challenges of the energy transition, offering "one-size-fits-all" solutions.
Energetica challenges this narrative, highlighting the strengths and limitations of various technologies
through interactive gameplay.
The project is rooted in the belief that there won't be a technological miracle to solve the climate crisis.
Instead, we must foster public engagement and nuanced understanding of existing solutions. Energetica's
open-source and free-to-play nature ensures accessibility to all who share this vision.
